| Why | Reconstitute Buildings & Grounds Committee |
Sharilyn Parr (UUFSD President) and Neil Lynch (Board Liason to B&G Committee) invited several interested UUFSD members to reconstitute the Buildings & Grounds Committee. Much of the work of this committee has been carried on in the past year by Ben Platnik and John Roodhuyzen, both of whom have recently resigned.
There was no formal agenda.
- Betsy Gilpin
- Neil Lynch - Buildings & Grounds liason to UUFSD board
- Michael Parr
- Steve Bartram
- Ben Platnik
- Stu Anderson
- Greg Brown
- Eleanor Batho
Betsy opened the meeting at 7:15 and invited Ben to describe what was involved in running Buildings and Grounds (B&G).
Ben listed examples of the wide scope of activities: replacing light bulbs, watering plants, sweeping up pine needles, repairs for Sandy Hill nursery school, buying air-conditioners, listening to complaints about facilities.
Ideas were floated for tracking current maintenance needs from the user population - do we need a formal reporting scheme? TODO list in B&G mailbox? Scheduled walking tour? Checkoff lists in each building?
Ben and Neil highlighted that in the absence of a full B∧G committee, long term maintenance has been neglected. As a board member Neil would like a summary of maintenance needs with budgetary options to quantify the "stitch in time saves nine" issues. Betsy observed that without vocal representation, few resources will be forthcoming.
Stu invited everyone to share what particular skills they brought to this group, what they liked to do most and least. A wide variety of aptitudes and interests were expressed. Steve, a newcomer to UUFSD, offered a variety of organizational skills. The emphasis was on doing things rather than sitting in meetings. Idea: Skills inventory for B&G members and work party volunteers.
