Projects: TODO List

Contents

  1. Overview
  2. Projects by Group

Scope

Project level "to do" list for Buildings & Grounds. Project Plans are organized under working group headings.

Summary

Project Plans remain here while active, then move to UUBG-067 Projects: DONE List.

Overview

This list identifies and tracks the status of active Project Plans. Project Summaries created in UUBG-065 Projects: Master Index are expanded into Project Plans here, with an initial STATUS of [TODO]. Project Plans remain here while they are active with one of these STATUS conditions:

When a project reaches its final STATUS (which may be: [DONE], [MAINT] or [QUIT]) it is moved to UUBG-067 Projects: DONE List. Project Plans are listed under the working group responsible, newest projects first. See UUBG-068 Projects: User's Guide for details.

Projects by Group

These are active projects for the Buildings & Grounds Committee which is comprised of a steering committee and four working groups, as described in UUBG-035 Organization: UUFSD B&G Committee.

These are active projects for the Steering Committee whose ongoing responsibilities are described in UUBG-036 Organization: Steering Committee and UUBG-043 Tasks: Steering Maintenance. Listed in descending ProjectID order (newest project first).

Health and Safety (Anne Larocca, Alison Crotty)

Anne Larocca: Magda Heath who is 90+ years old and is having trouble getting from the upper parking lot down to the library. She suggests improving the walkway from upper parking lot to office and beyond to Library. I’m not sure if she means the surface is uneven or if she’d like handrails, or both.

Alison Crotty: Do we have tons of rattlesnakes on site, as one expert suggests?
Stu Anderson (after Patricia Weld): We might have a few pounds of rattlers which is still many snakes. They are a natural feature of wild areas in this climate. The coastal commission has just ruled this a wild area and so it will remain.
Rattlers can be dangerous if you do something stupid in their presence. The nice thing about them is that they rattle and most people hear that and back up - and so do the snakes. Unlike the fer-de-lance which quietly and aggressively attacks - fortunately its too dry for them here. I left them all back in Costa Rica last week.
Practically, Patricia's answer addresses the issue - is this something we need to be concerned about at UUFSD? Apparently it hasn't been. You might also ask the Sandy Hill people about their experience and any staff or child training they do on this topic. I am very impressed with their organization which manages about 20 times as many child-hours on the site as we do.
Historic answers are valuable and remain valid unless something changes. Every change is a new experiment. Like building yurts. While snakes tend not to come into constructed buildings they do like to slink into tents. Something to think about.
If you want more information I welcome you to pursue it. If you want to reduce the number of snakes then I welcome volunteers to help clean up debris piles and seal the existing buildings which are inadequately maintained. These actions reduce the habitat for rodents and thus the snake population. -Stu

Formalize Path to Montessori (Stu Anderson)

There are two paths between UUFSD's lower parking lot and the Sante Fe Montessori school yard. The established path is long and gently sloped, the newer is a shortcut up an embankment to the parking lot. We propose to formalize the shortcut by building a set of steps up the bank and informalize the longer path as part of a hiking trail.

Maintain Roofs of Wood Buildings (Patricia Weld)

Patricia reports: North County Roofing replaced one classroom roof in September 2003 and the other two in February of 2005. These flat torch-down roofs are guaranteed for five years. Unfortunately, the paperwork does not specify which classrooms were repaired when. Greg Brown, and Miles Anderson were involved and may remember these details.
We did business with Chuck Williams. His phone at North County Roofing is 760-726-6692.
Other roofs are fancy foam types replaced by Eberhard Benton roofing. Last inspection by Jeff ??? in October, 2007 after which the 10 yr warranty expired.

Storage Shelves & Cabinets (Patricia Weld)

Address various storage needs throughout the site. Patricia needs room for more Banker's Boxes to store annual financial records. Currently there are 9 boxes in the office supply closet + 10 in Palmer Library Mens' restroom closet. She proposes we put cabinets up on the rear wall of the office under the new roof (above the gravel). Bankers' box is 16"x11"x12".
