Plug and Play Solar
It’s almost official. Last week state lawmakers passed a bill that will allow us to install solar panels that can be plugged into household outlets. If Governor Gavin Newsom signs it into law, it will help lower electric bills and empower consumers to help mitigate climate change.
Also known as “balcony solar,” these small systems currently require a complicated utility approval process to plug them into your wall. However the new bill will reclassify balcony solar as a simple household appliance starting in 2027 - no utility permission required. Approved systems will need to meet safety standards and have automatic shutoffs.
